Is Anthony Davis playing tonight vs Heat? Latest on Lakers superstar's status (Dec. 4)

With LeBron James experiencing a scoring lull, all eyes will be on Anthony Davis to help the LA Lakers restore parity to their shaky campaign. The Purple and Gold have been 5-5 in their last 10 games and are 1-1 in their current four-game road trip. They play the equally struggling Miami Heat on Wednesday night at the Kaseya Center, hoping to bounce back to winning ways.

Davis is expected to suit up against the Heat. The center was a regular feature on the injury list with a foot injury and was listed probably with 'left foot plantar fasciitis' as the diagnosis. The injury has not been serious enough for Davis to miss games, making him a key presence to start in the showdown against Miami.

Anthony Davis stats vs Miami Heat

Anthony Davis has a healthy record against the Miami Heat. The big averages 25.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in 16 games versus the Heat. His best performance was his 41-point masterclass against the Eastern Conference outfit in 2018.

The effort wasn't enough as the Heat staved off the New Orleans Pelicans' rally to win 106-101. Davis also recorded nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, and four blocks in the game. He had assistance from Jrue Holiday (21 points and eight assists).

As a Laker, his highlight game against the Heat was his 33-point effort in 2019. This time around, the performance translated to a 113-110 win. His double-double, which included 10 rebounds and three blocks, saw LA hold off a formidable Heat threat led by Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.

The ongoing season sees him average 27.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.0 blocks on 54.5% shooting from the field and 35.7% from beyond the arc.

Anthony Davis offers a blunt assessment of Lakers' season so far

Despite stellar games from him and James, the LA Lakers have dropped games that could have put them in a better position than their current ninth-place standing in a stacked West. Davis minced no words when he assessed the season so far after their abysmal loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this week.

“I would agree with that. Sometimes we look like a team that can compete with anyone and sometimes we look like a team that looks terrible and is not gonna do anything this season. So we just gotta figure out what team that we want to be for the rest of the season. I know everybody’s mindset in here and our goals, but we gotta translate it to the floor. I think we have games where we’re phenomenal and then we got games where we’re disgusting, like tonight.”

The Lakers finish their four-game away trip with a final stop against the Atlanta Hawks. Only time will tell if Anthony Davis can help the side get back to winning ways.
