The OKC Thunder recently concluded their four-game road trip and are set to host the Cleveland Cavaliers in a highly anticipated regular season matchup on Thursday. The Thunder and Cavaliers are the two best teams in the league, with the Thunder posting just six losses and the Cavaliers narrowly ahead with only five defeats.

The Thunder will continue to be without star center Chet Holmgren, who has been sidelined since Nov. 10 due to a right iliac wing fracture sustained during a game against the Golden State Warriors. Holmgren’s recovery timeline was initially set at 8-10 weeks and with nine weeks having passed since the injury, the former Gonzaga standout appears to be nearing a return.

Holmgren has shown promising signs of recovery, traveling with the team during their recent road trip and participating in light movement drills during shootarounds. He was also seen taking shots during pregame warmups ahead of the Thunder’s matchups against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Jan. 8 and the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday.

While no official update has been provided by the franchise, Chet Holmgren’s visible progress suggests that his return to action may be imminent. The former No. 2 overall pick could bolster the Thunder lineup sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, the Thunder continue their impressive season, sitting atop the Western Conference standings with a stellar 33-6 record.
