Ja Morant will play on Monday night against the Dallas Mavericks. The two-time NBA All-Star is all cleared up and ready for his return from injury in the Memphis Grizzlies' preseason opener. Morant suffered a labral tear in his right shoulder nine games into his return from a 25-game suspension last year.

He was ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on Jan. 9.

Morant hasn't appeared on the Grizzlies injury report ahead of the Grizzlies-Mavericks showdown on the road. He was also at shootaround this morning as the Grizzlies prepared for their first game day of the season.

He averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game in his nine appearances in the 2023-24 season.

Ja Morant alarms Grizzlies rivals ahead of comeback season

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have faded away from everyone's minds after finishing in the lottery last season with long-term injuries to every starter.

In that time frame, the Western Conference has only grown stronger and more competitive, making it difficult to gauge where the Grizzlies stand. There are at least 13 playoff contenders in the conference, including Memphis, ahead of the new season.

Morant used Media Day on Sept. 30 to remind everyone of the Grizzlies' potential and surge when healthy.

"Honestly, I’m not even worried about proving them wrong," Morant said. "Right now, I’m happy and that’s my main focus. I feel like a happy Ja is a scary Ja for a lot of people. So, long as I stay happy and healthy, it’ll be a great season."

Morant also feels the Grizzlies have one of the best rosters compared to previous years. The star point guard hailed their versatility and depth at every position ahead of the new season, suggesting it could be critical to their success.

"I honestly feel like this is one of the best rosters we’ve had, you know, on paper, depth-wise," Morant said. "And now being able to see the guys go out and when we’re playing and stuff, it gives me even more confidence. I feel like we’re pretty much loaded at every position. It’s gonna be interesting to see how it all pans out."

The Grizzlies finally see more of Ja Morant and Marcus Smart together. They have also added Zach Edey in the mix after drafting him ninth. Memphis has retained most of its roster from the playoff runs it made between 2021 and 2023.
