The Detroit Pistons will face the Charlotte Hornets on Friday, but they will be without their young guard Jaden Ivey. Ivey suffered a severe injury during Wednesday's game against the Orlando Magic and had to be stretchered off the court.

It was later confirmed that Ivey sustained a fractured fibula in his left leg, for which he successfully underwent surgery on Thursday. Initially, the injury appeared season-ending after Cole Anthony unintentionally caused the injury.

However, the Pistons have not ruled out the possibility of Ivey returning this season. The team announced that the young guard will be reevaluated in four weeks.

Jaden Ivey's injury came at a particularly unfortunate time as the young guard was in the midst of the best season of his NBA career. The former Purdue standout has been averaging 17.6 points per game on an impressive 46.0% shooting from the field, including 40.6% from beyond the arc. He has also contributed 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game across 30 appearances.

Pistons star Cade Cunningham reflected on the difficult moment of seeing his teammate in pain, expressing confidence that Ivey will come back stronger than ever.

"It’s tough on the whole group," Cunningham said. "To see him hurting like that is tough on us. He’s built for it, he’s going to shake back knowing him. He’s going to work his tail off and he’s going to be better than ever when he gets back. It’s hard to see that, for sure."
