The Canadian national team will face off against Team USA on Wednesday night, and Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray is expected to lace up for the red and white squad. He's coming off an early playoff exit with the Nuggets after winning his first NBA title in 2023 and will make his Olympic debut for his home country this year.
The sharpshooting guard averaged 21.2 points per game last season, primarily playing off-ball with superstar center Nikola Jokic leading. He's increased his ability as a playmaker since coming into the NBA, finishing last season with a career-high 6.5 assists per game.
Murray is best known for his shot-making and clutch moments, like when he scored two 50-point games in a tight playoff against the Utah Jazz in 2020. He shot a career-best 42.5 percent from three last season.
He led the Nuggets with 35 points in their game seven match against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semifinals, the last game he played. Murray shot 4-12 from deep with four turnovers while the Timberwolves erased a 20-point deficit to win the game and move on in the playoffs.

Murray is also expected to return to contract talks with the Nuggets after the Olympics this summer, according to Denver Post reporter Bennett Durando.
Jamal Murray and Canada vs Team USA preview
Murray wasn't a part of Canada's team for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, in which Canada beat Team USA in the bronze-medal match. Team USA, however, is rolling out a much more star-studded roster this year to avenge one of their worst performances on the international stage 10 months ago.
He'll likely be part of a backcourt featuring Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who finished last season in second place for MVP voting. Gilgeous-Alexander had a simple strategy for the two guards — briefly saying, "I drive, he shoots."
Other key players for Canada include Houston Rockets guard Dillon Brooks, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Toronto Raptors forwards RJ Barrett and Kelly Olynyk and Indiana Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard. They rank sixth internationally according to the FIBA rankings presented by Nike.
Broadcast by FS1, the game is set for 10:30 pm EST in Las Vegas.
They play their first official Olympic match on July 27 against Greece. The two teams comprise half of a star-studded Group A, which also features Australia and Spain.
