On Sunday night, Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns will kick off their preseason schedule against the LA Lakers. This matchup will begin what they hope is a bounceback year for the star-studded squad.
At the time of writing, it is still unclear who will and won't be available for the Suns on Sunday. That said, Durant's name is not on the injury report. This opens the door for the former MVP making his preseason debut against LA.
The Suns will have to be careful with Kevin Durant, as it was a short offseason for him. Less than two months ago, the All-Star forward was helping Team USA secure a gold medal in the Summer Olympics. Not far removed from highly competitive play, Phoenix will have to make sure it doesn't overexert Durant.
Coming off a year where he was very durable for the Suns, Durant could try and log some minutes against the Lakers to start building a rhythm. The 36-year-old played in 75 games last season and averaged 27.1 points per game.

Kevin Durant approves of Phoenix Suns' new-look lineup
This offseason, the Phoenix Suns decided to make a major change in their backcourt makeup. Last year, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal took care of the ballhandling duties. Now, a true point guard will be thrown into the mix.
After not being able to land a deal in free agency, Tyus Jones opted to sign a one-year deal with Phoenix. Fresh off a career year with the Washington Wizards, Jones is known for his low turnovers. Last season, he a 7-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
During training camp this week, Kevin Durant was asked about the Suns' three-guard lineup heading into this season.
"Just three guys that can handle the ball, bring the ball up, be able to make plays," Durant said. "Shoot the basketball as well. It's always good having multiple guys who can do those things."
Kevin Durant is among those who should benefit the most from the addition of Jones. Having a true point guard, who prioritizes finding his teammates, running the offense should result in endless good looks for the superstar forward.
