Is Kristaps Porzingis playing tonight against the Bulls? Latest on Celtics star's availability (Dec. 19)

Kristaps Porzingis is available for the Boston Celtics when they begin their two-game series against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday at TD Garden. The center's heel injury had him on the injury report listing him as questionable ahead of the marquee contest. Porzingis played just over 11 minutes during their last game against the Washington Wizards but later offered a more optimistic update.

Porzingis was kept out of the remainder of the game as a precautionary measure, but with two days of rest, there is a possibility he could suit up against Chicago. The big's insertion to the lineup makes them a legitimate threat on both ends of the floor.

While Boston has been clinical in his absence, Kristaps Porzingis gives it an added boost on defense. It also helps that the team had ample rest, playing just two games in 11 days.

Kristaps Porzingis quashes all notions of a major injury scare after heel issue

Speaking to the media after the 112-98 win over the Wizards, Kristaps Porzingis shed light on the injury and quashed all fears of being sidelined for a prolonged stretch. Per NBC Sports Boston, he said:

"I banged up my heel a little bit. I kept on playing. It was nothing major, honestly. More like a precautionary thing. It was pretty sensitive. I told the medical staff and they just pulled me out of the game. I don’t think it’s anything major."

Adding to the relief was coach Joe Mazzulla's statement that Porzingis was in "good spirits." He had 11 points in 11 minutes and was later substituted by reserve big Luke Kornet. The center averages 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.3 blocks per game this season. He missed 17 matchups at the start of the season as part of his recovery process.

The Celtics will be careful with Kristaps Porzingis' injury considering he made his return to the hardwood earlier than the timeline that was set. While the big continues to ramp up to his normal game, Boston will be looking to make sure its star remains healthy as it looks to defend its title.
