LeBron James and Team USA take on Germany on Monday, marking their fifth and final pre-Olympic tune-up game. James and Co. will look to redeem themselves after narrowly avoiding an embarrassing defeat against South Sudan on Saturday.
Despite entering their matchup against South Sudan as 43.5-point favorites, the Americans fell behind by as many as 16 points. They later rallied and took a 101-100 lead on a driving layup from James with 8.0 seconds remaining.
Sudanese guard Carlik Jones ultimately had a chance to win the game on a floater with 4.2 seconds to go. However, his attempt was well off the mark, allowing Team USA to escape with a one-point victory.

The win marked the Americans' fourth in four exhibition outings. They previously defeated Canada, Australia and Serbia. Nevertheless, with only one game remaining before the Paris Olympics, they will likely look to tighten up any loose screws to avoid future underwhelming performances.
Team USA takes on a formidable German squad on Monday, headlined by stars Franz Wagner and Dennis Schroder. Germany is 3-1 in pre-Olympic play, going 1-1 against France before comfortably beating the Netherlands and Japan.
The Germans eliminated the Americans from the 2023 FIBA World Cup semifinals en route to their gold medal. So, Team USA should be extra motivated as it seeks redemption.
Is LeBron James suiting up against Germany?
LeBron James has played in all four of Team USA's exhibition matchups thus far. On top of hitting Saturday's game-winner, the four-time NBA MVP tallied 25 points, six rebounds and seven assists to lead the Americans.
Afterward, he expressed satisfaction seeing his squad face adversity in a close matchup.
"I’m going to be honest; I like those better than the blowouts," James said. "At least we get tested."
So, barring any unforeseen rest, the NBA's eldest player (39) appears likely to suit up on Monday. However, coach Steve Kerr could limit his minutes to keep him fresh for the Olympics.
LeBron James is looking to secure his third Olympic gold medal this summer. He previously won bronze at the 2004 Olympics before capturing gold in 2008 and 2012. The 20-time NBA All-Star ranks third on USA Basketball's all-time scoring list (273 points).
