The new NBA season is only four games old, but the Golden State Warriors already face another critical test against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday at home. The major blow is that the Dubs will have to do it without their superstar point guard Steph Curry, who is sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Steph Curry’s overall contribution to the Warriors cannot be exaggerated, as he’s simply their spearhead in attack, and his shooting ability is something for all fans—rivals included—to enjoy.
After winning their first two games on the road, the Warriors suffered their first loss on Sunday night against the LA Clippers, where Curry sustained an ankle injury. Despite his absence in the next game on Tuesday, the Warriors staged a remarkable 20-point comeback win over the Pelicans that saw Budd Hield and Lindy Water III combining for 49 points.

What happened to Steph Curry?
Steph Curry’s first competitive game this season at Chase Center did not go anything as planned. In the third quarter, the Warriors fans held their breath once they saw Curry clutching his ankle in grimacing pain after landing awkwardly against the Clippers on Sunday. Despite receiving treatment, he returned to the game but was forced to leave again shortly after.
The tests showed that there was no ankle damage and that Curry’s absence would be just for a few days rather than a few weeks, which is what many presumed it would be.
Coach Steve Kerr later clarified it was a peroneal strain. As quoted by The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Kerr said the injury was only “mild.” This injury would see the 10-time All-Star likely miss at least two games of action.
“He's obviously sprained that ankle many times before. He doesn't think it's too bad,” he said.
Injuries have hurt his form at times over the past few years, but the "Baby Faced Assassin" keeps returning to his best and breaking records each time.
Rotations, and who will step in in the absence of Steph Curry?
While the Warriors would undoubtedly miss Curry on the court, his absence could provide an opportunity for other players to step up and become secondary scorers.
The Warriors' roster is heavily filled with talented players. In recent years, Steve Kerr has never really been faced with selection dilemmas he has now, as the squad finally has quality and depth.
With Buddy Hield starting to look like a blessing in disguise for the Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga experiencing arguably his best season in a Dubs jersey, and Lindy Waters III proving to be a reliable scorer, Moses Moody and Kyle Anderson are also steadily getting more minutes and could become impactful rotation options off the bench.
