The debate about who between Shaquille O'Neal and Giannis Antetokounmpo is the better scorer has resurfaced this season. As "The Greek Freak" continues his MVP-caliber season, NBA Reddit reopens the discussion about the topic.
Previously, most considered Shaq better, but some could have changed their minds. Basketball fans shared their thoughts about the engaging comparison between the two NBA greats:
“Shaq and it isn’t even close at all,” one said.

“Put Orlando Magic Shaquille O'Neal in the NBA right now and watch how crazy and insane it would be.”
MightGuy420x commented:
“Shaq in the paint was f**king insane to watch”
One fan countered:
“If a team needs a bucket who do I trust to score, definitely Shaq. But if we are just talking about who can score more points throughout the game, there’s an argument for Giannis, though, I still favor Shaq.”
Another fan reacted:
“Shaq looks like a little more fluid."
“But I think we discount how much better Giannis is in transition. It’s easy points,” posted another.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 32.4 points per game this season, a career-best, on 60.8% efficiency. In Shaquille O'Neal’s best scoring season, he won the scoring title with an average of 29.7 PPG on 57.4% shooting. O’Neal also led the NBA in field goal percentage in 10 seasons, something Antetokounmpo hasn’t achieved yet.
Antetokounmpo and O’Neal are dominating inside scorers but put up points differently. Antetokounmpo can score efficiently in the paint with a variety of moves and is a terrifying force in transition. O'Neal, meanwhile, didn't score often in fastbreaks but was a nightmare to defend within four feet of the rim. Some teams signed players for the sole purpose of accumulating defenders to slow down O’Neal.
Fans gave Giannis Antetokounmpo credit on NBA Reddit, but most still consider Shaquille O'Neal to be the better scorer.
Shaquille O'Neal once said that Giannis Antetokounmpo reminded him of himself
In January this year, Shaquille O'Neal, on the Stephen A. Smith Show, was asked about the modern NBA player who reminded the Hall of Famer of himself. O’Neal responded (3:15 mark):
“I’m gonna have to go with Giannis (Antetokounmpo). I’m actually jealous of today’s big men. I wish I was able to take off and go coast to coast. I would do it every now and then, but I would get in trouble with the coach. … When he puts his head down, he gonna run you over.”
NBA fans might consider Shaq to be the better scorer than Giannis Antetokounmpo, but the LA Lakers legend sees himself in the two-time MVP.
