Jalen Brunson was named the New York Knicks' 36th team captain after two seasons with the team. The point guard has helped turn the franchise into a top squad in the Eastern Conference. This offseason has been filled with good news for him as after signing a four-year, $156.5 contract extension, he has received a major honor which was last given by the team in the 2018-19 NBA season.
A lot of fans took to X to share their thoughts about it. Brunson was even compared to New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter and the team's current captain, Aaron Judge.

"CAPTAINS 🤍💙," one fan wrote with a picture of Brunson and Judge together at Yankee Stadium.
However, one fan threw shade at Judge while calling Brunson the real captain of the city.
"New York’s true captain unlike that Yankee captain," one fan said.
Others were excited to see the quality of captains the city has, not only in the NBA but in multiple sports.
"Jalen Brunson and Aaron Judge as captains for their respective New York Teams. Could not think of two better representatives for the city," one fan said.
"I really live in a world where my captains are Daniel Jones, Jacob Trouba, Aaron Judge, and Jalen Brunson. The Golden Age of New York Sports 🥰," another fan wrote.
Jalen Brunson has played a key role in New York's resurgence in the last two seasons. The point guard left the Dallas Mavericks after losing in the 2022 Western Conference Finals, joining the Knicks and leading the team to consecutive playoff appearances.
In 145 games with the Knicks, Brunson has averaged 26.5 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.6 rebounds, becoming the face of the franchise, and now the captain.
Aaron Judge gifted Jalen Brunson a special pair of cleats
New York team captains Aaron Judge and Jalen Brunson have come a long way. They are two of the biggest stars in the city and have embraced each other for a long time. Back in July, Judge made a nice gesture, giving Brunson a pair of signed cleats with a special message on it. He signed the pair and added '22ALMVP' on the left shoe.
On the right one, he wrote a strong message for the 2024 NBA All-Star.
"To Jalen – Keep running the city!" Judge wrote.
Brunson and Judge are both considered New York's future and are constantly supporting each other to help their teams reach greatness again.
