Japan vs France was among the four games on the men's basketball slate for the 2024 Olympics on Tuesday. France was looking to keep its momentum rolling, while Japan was keen to bounce back from a rocky opening matchup.

Japan kicked off its Olympic campaign with a 97-77 loss to Germany. As for the host country, it put together a strong outing to defeat Brazil 78-66.

Regulation time was not enough to separate France and Japan as the clash headed into overtime. In the end, Japan fell just short of pulling off the upset as France improved to 2-0 with a 94-90 victory.

Japan vs France game recap

There was no shortage of excitement in this clash. Following a blowout loss in its first game, the Japanese squad almost upset one of the top teams in the tournament.

Japan was led by Yuki Kawamura, who notched a team-high 29 points to go with seven rebounds and six assists. He singlehandedly tried to carry his team to victory, attempting 26 of Japan's 75 shots.

Another notable standout for Japan was LA Lakers forward Rui Hachimura. He was his team's second-leading scorer, finishing with 24 points on 63% shooting.

As for France, it was once again led by San Antonio Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama. He did a little bit of everything, posting a stat line of 18 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals and two blocks.

France's other top performer was non-NBA talent Matthew Strazel, who led the charge offensively, recording 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting.

Japan fought hard to hang around all game, but in the end, it wasn't enough to take down France. The host country managed to survive this hard-fought effort and maintained its undefeated record.
