Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain was celebrated at the Wells Fargo Center last week, where he received his Rookie of the Month award — his last major achievement before being ruled out of the season due to a torn left meniscus.

Prior to the injury, McCain had been an impressive rookie, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 46.0% including 38.3% from 3-point range.

He shared a photo of himself receiving the award on crutches, accompanied by the caption:

The post garnered a lot of support, including from fellow rookie Rob Dillingham, a backup point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Dillingham showed McCain some love in the comments, writing:

“My brotha.”

Dillingham's rookie campaign has been more subdued, as an ankle sprain kept him off the court for a while. However, he received good news recently, as he was cleared for full-contact, five-on-five play and was assigned to the Iowa Wolves for a rehab stint.

Dillingham, who is signed to a four-year, $28,491,576 rookie contract, could offer a boost to the Timberwolves’ backcourt once he returns. The team's guard rotation recently saw a shift, with Donte DiVincenzo now starting in place of Mike Conley.

Update on Jared McCain's injury progress

Jared McCain has officially been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a torn left meniscus. Before the injury, McCain had been one of the league’s standout rookies.

When the 76ers announced McCain’s season-ending injury, they also shared positive news about his recovery.

"Jared McCain was reviewed today by the surgeon who performed surgery on his left knee on Dec. 17. He is progressing well and will be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season," the team said.

McCain had been a bright spot in a season marked by injuries for the 76ers, starting alongside the team’s core when healthy.

Coach Nick Nurse acknowledged McCain’s devastation over the injury.

“He’s really disappointed,” Nurse said of McCain’s injury. “You guys understand that, right? I mean really, really, really disappointed.”
“I think we will miss it a little bit. We got some guys that are playing really hard, and all that stuff. We still miss that little spark. I think that he is kind of special with what he gives you.”

With their injury troubles, the 76ers currently sit 11th in the Eastern Conference with a 15-22 record.
