Jared McCain and the Philadelphia 76ers took on the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night. So far in the 17 games he has played, McCain has proven to be the favorite to win this season's Rookie of the Year award.

However, in their last game against the Houston Rockets, the Sixers rookie struggled to find his rhythm. McCain added 15 points and six rebounds, then missed all his three-point attempts.

Looking at his performance against the Pistons, McCain was uncharacteristically quiet in the opening period. It was Kelly Oubre Jr. and Ricky Council IV who established a dominant lead for the Sixers in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, McCain still didn't contribute on offense as he didn't attempt any shots. Ricky Council IV picked up from where he left off in the first quarter as he added five more points.

Come the third quarter, McCain was finally on the scoreboard adding three points. He made an and-one opportunity to get his first three points of the game. Philly managed to expand their lead by a wide margin of 20 points thanks to Tyrese Maxey’s second-half resurgence.

Maxey found his stroke and accumulated a total of 22 points by the end of the period. Ultimately, the Philadelphia 76ers came out on top at Detroit with a dominant 111-96 finish. Jared McCain was surprisingly quiet in the game despite clocking in 29 minutes.

Sixers vs Pistons recap: Tyrese Maxey saves the day without Jared McCain’s help

The Philadelphia 76ers took on the Detroit Pistons on Saturday wherein they came up with a 111-96 victory on the road. Despite not having their superstar big man Joel Embiid by their side, Tyrese Maxey proved further why he has what it takes to be the face of the franchise. Maxey led his team to a dominant victory with 28 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals.

Four other Sixers players were in double figures on Saturday. KJ Martin added 19 points, Ricky Council IV had 17 points, Kelly Oubre Jr. with 14 points and Paul George with 11 points. One player who surprisingly didn’t efficiently contribute on offense was Jared McCain.

Looking at McCain’s previous performances, he’s proven to be a worthy candidate for the Rookie of the Year award. In fact, there were games when he showed the potential to become an All-Star in the near future. Unfortunately for him, it appears that he had an off night going up against the Pistons.
