Roughly a year ago, Royce White announced on X (formerly Twitter), that he would be taking a vying for a seat in the U.S. Senate. The former NBA player won Minnesota’s endorsement last month before bagging the Republican primary on Aug. 13. He beat Joe Fraser as his party’s candidate to take on Senator Amy Klobuchar (Democrat) in the general elections in November.

Here is what Jason Whitlock had to say about what many have called a shocking win by White in his party’s primary:

“In 2020, Royce White tweeted out that he had voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. In the summer of St. George Floyd, Royce assisted in leading BLM protests. How does a guy turn from somebody like that into the ultimate MAGA person?”

Whitlock called White’s excuse that somebody from his staff tweeted he voted for Biden and Harris “baloney” and “hot garbage”. For him, the drastic change in political leanings is “flawed," prompting Whitlock to draw the word on White's head while his monologue went on.

In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death that triggered rallies across the US. White led “Black Lives Matter” protests in Minnesota. Many thought the 2017 NBL Canada MVP would become a popular voice behind the BLM movement.

Less than a year after White led protests, he renounced the BLM, giving his reason why he did that per a “Mother Jones” report. He repudiated the movement because it wanted Black men to be “dead, gay, sold out or on the wrong end of sexual harassment or Me Too allegations."

Jason Whitlock thought he might have been fooled or played with how Royce White’s political views have shifted over the years. From the “Equity and Opportunity for Black Americans" of the Biden-Harris tandem, White is squarely with Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) slogan.

Jason Whitlock and Royce White had a public falling out in October 2023

Royce White was often a guest in Whitlock’s “Fearless with Jason Whitlock” show. In April 2022, the sportswriter even said that he believed White “could be president one day.”

Their friendship and working relationship ended in October 2023 when White took shots at Mark Levin, “The Blaze” co-owner. White’s rant about Levin on his podcast “Please Call Me Crazy” did not sit well with Whitlock who had this to say to his former colleague:

“No beef. Resolution. In an effort to draw attention and controversy to himself and his show, Royce did a 2-hour podcast based off a private, text-message exchange between he and I. This ended our friendship and working relationship. I have no friends (or contributors) who see our private communication as content sources.”

Jason Whitlock blocked Royce White who responded in his podcast (35:33 mark):

“We could talk like men. … You are older than me and I respect my elders but being a man is being a man. And when you go block somebody on social media, that’s female s**t.”

Royce White added that Whitlock could even bring Mark Levin so they could all sort out the mess. The “Fearless” host refused to respond, likely ending the connection between the two former friends.
