On Saturday, Brandon Jennings called Jayson Tatum the “softest Celtics superstar.” The former NBA player made the comment in the latest episode of the Gilbert Arenas Show. Arenas pushed back on Jennings’ claim, insisting that Tatum's 28 points per game is never soft.

On Wednesday, Tatum responded to former Milwaukee Bucks point guard's shot with a post on Instagram. The Boston Celtics superstar wrote:

“SoFtesT SuPeRstar in CeLtiC HiStoRy” 😅

Jennings engaged the 2024 NBA champ:

“I’ll be in Boston in May and June
“I need all 3 🏆🏆🏆 after 82 games. You know what I’m talking bout @gilsarena we will be there
“This the energy I want!!!!
“Carti dropping soon!!! 🧛🏾‍♂️🦴😈”

Gilbert Arenas said that Jayson Tatum might be the quietest but not the softest Celtics star in history. Brandon Jennings did not agree as Tatum failed to win the NBA Finals MVP award, an honor that went to Tatum’s teammate Jaylen Brown. Jennings doubled down on his point when he said that teams are “afraid” of Brown instead of Taco Jay.

According to Jennings, Celtics greats in the past were “cutthroat,” an issue that Arenas did not agree with. Nick Young, another co-host of the show, agreed with everything Jennings said about Tatum and how competitive Celtics legends were like Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Larry Bird, Bill Russell and others.

To respond to Brandon Jennings, Jayson Tatum used highlights of his games against the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves. The All-NBA forward averaged 27.0 points, 6.7 assists and 6.0 rebounds during that stretch, helping Boston to a 3-0 record.

Jayson Tatum’s numbers back up his impressive play

This season, Jayson Tatum is averaging 28.1 PPG on 46.3% shooting, including 36.2% from deep. He is norming career highs in rebounds (9.2 RPG), assists (5.5 APG) and steals (1.3 SPG). Tatum leads the Boston Celtics in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and win shares.

Gilbert Arenas said that Tatum’s style is “laidback” like former NBA star Tracy McGrady, one of league history’s most explosive scorers. According to Agent Zero, Tatum will “bust” others, a sure sign the Celtics star is not soft.

Fans also recognized how good Taco Jay has been, particularly this season. In the first ballot return for the All-Star game, Tatum is second in the Eastern Conference frontcourt with 1.3 million votes. He trails only Giannis Antetokounmpo, who leads the entire NBA with 1.7 million votes.
