“Jim Brown was a God” – LeBron James pays tribute to Cleveland Browns' legend

Shortly after the passing of football legend Jim Brown, LA Lakers star LeBron James didn't hesitate to pay tribute to the former athlete. The four-time NBA champion wrote a heartfelt letter to Brown on his Instagram account and shared how he was inspired by the Cleveland Browns legend.

"We lost a hero today. Rest in Paradise to the legend Jim Brown. I hope every Black athlete takes the time to educate themselves about this incredible man and what he did to change all of our lives." James wrote.

"If you grew up in Northeast Ohio and were Black, Jim Brown was a God. As a kid who loved football, I really just thought of him as the greatest Cleveland Brown to ever play... When I choose to speak out, I always think about Jim Brown. I can only speak because Jim broke down those walls for me."

"I am so grateful that I was able to call you my friend. I hope I can continue to honor your legacy with my words and actions."

Brown was the sixth pick and played for Cleveland from 1957 to 1965. He won the championship back in 1964 and was awarded the MVP three times throughout his career. He was a huge part of the civil rights movement and broke down the barriers during his time. His wife announced that Jim passed away earlier tonight.

LeBron James and Jim Brown both had significant impact in Cleveland's championship runs

Back in 2016, LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers to an impressive run to win the NBA Championship. Interestingly, their title win against the Golden State Warriors was the first the city of Cleveland won in any major sports since the Browns' title win back in 1964.

Additionally, both of the title wins were led by legends of their respective sports. Jim Brown led Cleveland to a championship back in 1964 against the Baltimore Colts. Throughout the entire game, the Browns led the game and finished on top with a score of 27-0 to seal the win.

The mystery began to linger as to when the city of Cleveland will win another championship. Thanks to LeBron and the Cavs, though, they were able to celebrate winning a championship after 52 years. The narrative behind the series was even more impressive.

Throughout the series, the Warriors were favored to overcome the task of beating the Cavs as they had just finished the season winning 73 games. In the Finals, they were able to have an early lead against Cleveland. However, James and the entire team were determined to get the job done and bring home a title for the Cavs.

After overcoming a 3-1 lead, and making an iconic chasedown block, the four-time MVP returned home with the Larry O'Brien trophy.
