Jimmy Butler discussed his future with the Miami Heat on Monday. He is serving a seven-game suspension amid a contract and role dispute but said that he remains in his prime, according to The Washington Post's Ben Golladro.
During the opening of his Big Face coffee business, Butler sounded like a player with a post-NBA plan already in place. He has mapped out how he'll spend his suspension and life after basketball.
“I still think I’m in my prime if I’m being brutally honest,” Butler said. “Now, as this coffee life takes off, I’m going to be in here daily making coffee, enjoying the vibes and letting everybody see and know that it’s not a gimmick. This is my passion, and it’s going to be my passion even when I’m done playing.”
Butler was suspended by the Heat for what they called "multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team." The six-time All-Star expressed frustration with playing in Miami after Thursday's loss to the Indiana Pacers, saying that he had lost his joy for the game.

He then formally informed the Heat that he wanted to be traded, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
The suspension will cost him $2.35 million, per Bobby Marks of ESPN. He has already missed two games, Saturday's 136-100 loss to the Utah Jazz and Monday's 123-118 overtime defeat against the Sacramento Kings. He will miss the matchups with the Golden State Warriors, Utah Jazz, Portland Trail Blazers, LA Lakers and LA Clippers.
Jimmy Butler trade update on potential move to Memphis Grizzlies revealed by NBA insider
Jimmy Butler's potential move to the Memphis Grizzlies has hit a roadblock. League sources reported that Butler has no interest in being traded to the Grizzlies, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes on Monday.
"League sources just relayed to me that the Memphis Grizzlies, along with a few other teams, have received word that Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler has no interest in being traded there," Haynes said. "The message is being delivered that a trade should not be attempted to acquire the All-Star forward.”
Butler will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. It remains to be seen where he will end up ahead of the trade deadline.
