"Listen, you guys know he's got a sinus fracture, right?" It's been reported," Coach Nick Nurse said. "He's still got another evaluation here shortly this afternoon. We’ll see where we're at. He hasn't been ruled out for tomorrow yet. We just still need information on this last assessment here this afternoon."
Furthermore, Nick Nurse stated that he has not yet ruled out the former MVP for Monday's game against the Charlotte Hornets. He made this known when he was quizzed on the possibility of Joel Embiid wearing a mask to play.
"I don't know that either. I think that's certainly a possibility," Nurse added. "He’s certainly done that before, but I don't know that. Nobody’s told me that, ‘Yes, it's going to be a mask situation, for sure.’ Nobody's told me that. I think it's really 50/50."
The latest injury suffered by Embiid occurred when he was mistakenly hit in the face by Pacers's Bennedict Mathurin while they battled for a rebound. After being evaluated by medical staff in the locker room, he was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
It's been a difficult season for the 76ers (7-16), who are now dealing with an injury to Rookie of the Year frontrunner Jared McCain. The rookie will undergo surgery for a torn left meniscus and will be out indefinitely.
