The Golden State Warriors recorded an emphatic 122-112 win over the Sacramento Kings in the NBA preseason game at the Golden 1 Center on Wednesday. The Warriors' victory came on the back of the team's hot shooting from 3-point range. Steph Curry and Co. made 28 of their 52 attempts from beyond the arc.

Jonathan Kuminga hit four three-pointers, the second-most by a Warriors player that night, trailing only Buddy Hield, who went 6-of-7 from deep. Known more for his athleticism than his outside shooting, Kuminga's impressive performance from beyond the arc against the Kings was a promising development for both the franchise and its fans.

Kuminga's sharp shooting stemmed from his ability to stay focused and follow head coach Steve Kerr's directive. After the game, the 22-year-old forward discussed his improvement on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers, crediting Kerr's advice to take open shots without hesitation.

Kuminga shared that Kerr emphasized the importance of not overthinking and simply trusting his instincts when the opportunity arises.

"I'm not overthinking it," Kuminga told reporters after the game. "Coach wants me to take the ones that are open and not think about it. The more you don't think about it, the more you make them."

Kuminga played a key role in the Warriors' record-setting shooting performance, as the team registered its most made 3-pointers across both preseason and regular season history. Golden State's regular-season record for most threes stands at 27.

So far, in their two preseason games, Steve Kerr's squad has attempted 102 shots from beyond the arc, averaging over one 3-point attempt per minute. Kuminga, specifically, has taken nine shots from deep, making four of them. However, he went 0-for-2 in the game against the Clippers.

Kuminga delivered a strong performance against the Kings, finishing with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including an impressive 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.

Jonathan Kuminga looks to build on last season’s success

Jonathan Kuminga is gearing up for his fourth NBA season, and after three years with the Golden State Warriors, it's clear that the 2023-24 campaign was his best yet from an individual perspective.

Last season, Kuminga appeared in 74 games, averaging 16.1 points per game on an efficient 52.9% shooting from the field, including 32.1% from beyond the arc. He also contributed 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

Heading into the upcoming season, Kuminga will be expected to at least match those numbers. Given his impressive 3-point shooting performance against the Kings, there’s plenty for Warriors fans to be excited about.
