It's been more than two months since the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers, but the ripple effect is still wreaking havoc.
Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison received a lot of backlash from fans, and ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that the move could have disastrous financial implications for the organization.
The trade may cost the team nine figures over the next several years, as attendance, jersey sales, season tickets and sponsors will be affected by Doncic's departure.

However, some fans don't seem to think this was casual. Patrick Dumont and Miriam Adelson, the casino and real estate moguls who bought the team from Mark Cuban, could use this as an excuse to relocate the team to Las Vegas.

"They just wanna go to Vegas," one fan tweeted on Wednesday.
"They’re clearly eyeing this so they can move to Vegas if Texas won’t allow their casino plans," one fan said.
"Creating a path to relocate to Las Vegas," a fan wrote.
"All part of the plan for them to go to Vegas," another fan wrote
Others weren't pessimistic as they believed the ownership had a plan which would come to fruition.
"It’ll only cost them if they don’t WIN! If they start winning, all the revenue from say jersey sales will be subsidized into tickets prices. If they can get Kyrie and AD on the floor consistently together, they’ll be one of the best teams in the West, so all these “predictions” is just stupidity," one fan commented.
"They’ll make it back and then some when the Adelson family gets the first casino and online sportsbook in Texas," another fan said.
Luka Doncic will return to Dallas for the first time since the trade
Dallas Mavericks fans will get another reminder of what they had and lost on Wednesday when the LA Lakers visit with Doncic at the helm.
He had 19 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists in his first encounter against his former team, a 107-99 Lakers win on Feb. 26.
Fans will likely greet him with open arms and give an ovation since he didn't request a trade or wasn't aware that he was going to be on the move.
The early returns of this transaction have been negative for the No. 10-seeded Mavericks, and only time will tell whether they made the right call, even if it doesn't seem that way now.
