Previewing the NBA's opening day schedule for the start of the 2024-25 season
The NBA's preseason schedule will begin on Friday with two highly-anticipated games, pitting the Celtics and the Nuggets, the two most recent NBA champions, against one another for the league's Abu Dhabi game.
Then, later in the day, JJ Redick's Lakers will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves to close out the first day of preseason action.
The regular season will then tip off on Oct. 22 with a game between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks, where the defending champs will look to start the season off strong against their longtime rivals, the New York Knicks.
Then, later in the day on Oct. 22, the league will close out opening day with another meeting between the LA Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves as both teams look to start their 2024-25 campaign off on the right foot.
In the case of the Lakers, the team will be looking to pick up their first win under coach JJ Redick following an unceremonious first-round exit from the playoffs last year that resulted in the firing of coach Darvin Ham.
On the flip side, after their best postseason finish since 2004, the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are fresh off a massive trade that landed them Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, will be looking to build on the momentum of last season after making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
