In his first season with the New York Knicks, Karl-Anthony Towns finds himself playing on Christmas Day. The Knicks are kicking off a jam-packed slate with an afternoon matchup against the San Antonio Spurs.
Towns has been off to a hot start after being traded in the offseason. However, the All-Star big man finds himself with a tough matchup on Christmas. Towns headlined a big center matchup as he faces off against DPOY frontrunner Victor Wembanyama.
Despite having such a tough matchup, Towns managed to still be a focal point for the Knicks offense. He'd eventually get a groove going and nearly ended the game with a double-double.

The Knicks needed every bit of production that they got from Towns, as things ended up going down the wire. It was a one-possession game in the final minute, and New York came up with numerous clutch plays down the stretch to seal a victory.
Up three with under 30 seconds to go, Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby both got shots up to try and put the Spurs away. Even though they couldn't get them to fall, the Knicks came up with two huge offensive rebounds to maintain possession as time expired. In the end, they'd walk out of MSG with a 117-114 victory to kick off the Christmas Day slate.
Karl-Anthony Towns was fired up after hitting 3-pointer over Victor Wembanyama
As expected, the big talk heading into this matchup was the center battle between Karl-Anthony Towns and Victor Wembanyama. While the Spurs center did cause some problems, he was not able to fully contain New York's star addition.
Coming out of halftime, Towns seemed to have a good idea of how to attack a defensive matchup like Wemby. The third quarter would end up being his best, recording 11 of his 21 points in that period.
Karl-Anthony Towns did most of his damage around the rim in the third but did have one signature play on the perimeter. Despite having an outstretched Wembanyama in his face, he was able to get a long-range triple to fall. Towns was fired up after the shot, engaging with the crowd on his way back down the court.
Wembanyama would have the standout performance between the two centers, finishing with 42 points and 18 rebounds. That said, it would be Towns who had the last laugh as the Knicks walked out of this matchup victorious.
