Charles Barkley’s been on the comedic end of some hard shots from former and current NBA players for not winning a championship. This time, it was WNBA champion Kelsey Plum who took a dig at the Hall of Famer.
On an episode of “The Steam Room” with Ernie Johnson, Plum roasted Barkley after the erstwhile NBA player asked her to guarantee a repeat championship:
“For someone that’s never won a championship, I’ll just give you some advice. That's not really what you do.”

Charles Barkley took the ribbing in good spirits, saying he was letting it pass. He added that it's the holiday season and Santa Claus is coming to town, so he wasn't going to push back on her vicious dig.
Barkley is known for his guarantees while working as a co-host for the "NBA on TNT" crew. While some of those assurances have turned out to be incredibly right, some have been big-time duds. Kelsey Plum didn’t want to be in that situation or have a target on her back for the next WNBA season.
“Chuck” has never won a title but was an 11x All-NBA player who eventually carried the Phoenix Suns to the 1993 NBA Finals. He and several former superstars just happened to be playing in the same era as Michael Jordan.
Despite failing to lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy, Charles Barkley has never been afraid to make guarantees, whether it’s basketball or something else. He recently "guaranteed" that the US Men’s National Soccer team would beat the Netherlands in the knockout stage.
"We're going through the Netherlands. We opening up a can of whoop (expletive). I guarantee the Netherlands are in trouble.”
US soccer fans must have dreaded that guarantee and cringed when he added this:
"I want Spain. I want Brazil. I want Germany," Barkley said. "I want France, but they got that boy (Kylian) Mbappe over there. He ain’t no joke. But, we going to beat the Netherlands."
The USMNT lost 3-1 to the Netherlands, which caused some fans to blast Charles Barkley on social media for jinxing the team.
Charles Barkley correctly predicted the 2022 NCAA College Men’s Basketball winner
Charles Barkley’s guarantees don't always fall flat on his face. During the NCAA Final Four, he correctly predicted the Kansas Jayhawks to win the championship. After Kansas beat Villanova, he boldly guaranteed the Jayhawks would win it all despite the ongoing battle between Duke and North Carolina.
Barkley watched the NCAA championship alongside "NBA on TNT" co-host Kenny Smith, who played for North Carolina in college. Jayhawks fans hit Barkley's guarantee in the first half as their team trailed 40-25.
The Jayhawks, however, turned the table on the Tar Heels in the second half. Kansas outscored North Carolina 47-29 to win the game by three points for a final 72-69. Barkley had a grand time ribbing Smith who couldn’t almost look at the final score.
The NBA season is roughly ¼ of the season finished, while the WNBA isn’t even starting. In both leagues, Charles Barkley has more than enough time to make his now-famous or infamous guarantees.
