The NBA has a ratings problem. That's a fact, something that can be measured objectively with numbers. For years, fans have been complaining about the state of the game. They seem to believe it's becoming softer, and they don't seem to enjoy it being a 3-point shooting contest.

With that in mind, one fan called the game out after watching Victor Wembanyama and Karl-Anthony Towns exchanging 3-point attempts. He reminisced about the good old days, and Kevin Durant wasn't having any of it.

"Nostalgia got this man in every wrestling move u can think of, we all wish we could be a kid again and experience life with no responsibilities, everything seemed better back then. Then u grow up…." Durant replied.

Durant then called the fans out for complaining about something they wanted to see more of years ago, going as far as to say that they don't even like the game.

"They are complaining for engagement. They’re screaming for more middies now when they hated them a few years ago. They will never be happy … because they don’t really like basketball," Durant told another fan.

Durant ultimately explained why the notion of defense being lighter, softer, or easier now was actually inaccurate.

"It’s easier to play defense when you aren’t worried about somebody outside the paint, defense is hard in this league when everybody on the floor can shoot and you on an island and your teammates afraid to help off a sniper," Durant said.

LeBron James and Steph Curry discuss 3-point shooting in modern NBA

LeBron James doesn't feel the same way, though. He said that while the game had to change, it may have gone way too far with all the triples.

"Something had to change," James told Dave McMenamin. "Everybody has their own opinion ... but it's different in a sense. We'll see when we get there. It's different, and anytime you make some kind of change, there's gonna be some buck back. I have my ideas of what could work, but you have to do something.
"Obviously, the last couple of years have not been a great All-Star game on that Sunday night. But it's a bigger conversation; it's not just our All-Star game. Our game, there’s a lot of f—ing 3s being shot. So it’s a bigger conversation than just the All-Star Game.”

Unsurprisingly, Steph Curry, who is most blamed for this revolution, has a contrasting opinion.

“Everybody has their opinion. It’s not like I can go out there and do a 360 windmill, drive down, and maybe dunk on somebody. For me, I’m never going to fight three-point shots. That’s just how I’ve seen the game forever," Curry told Malika Andrews.

Curry argued that everybody had to evolve and develop different skill sets. That will continue to happen, but he'll continue to play the same way:

"Certain skill-sets that started coming into the league. You see how many bigs are dominating down in the post. It’s like either extreme, and the cool part is that defenses adjust, and it just takes time for that to happen. So we’ll see where that goes. I’m going to keep shooting threes, so don’t worry about that," Curry added.

At the end of the day, those who love the game will most likely have to adapt to this new era. Likewise, the game will continue evolving and transitioning.
