On Saturday, Kevin Durant and Team USA competed against Puerto Rico in their final game of the Group Phase at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The team rode plenty of momentum into Saturday's game after defeating Serbia in their opening game of the Group Phase, and South Sudan in a highly-anticipated rematch earlier in the week.

While Team USA had competed against both Serbia and South Sudan in a pair of international friendly games leading up to the Olympics, with Puerto Rico competing in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, Saturday's game was the first chance both teams had to compete against one another.

The game got off to a hot start, with Puerto Rico outscoring Team USA 30-25 in the first quarter, with Kevin Durant going scoreless over three minutes of action. In the second, Durant began to find his rhythm as the two sides battled back and forth.

In the second half, Durant and Team USA were able to build on their lead en route to a 104-83 win.

Looking at Kevin Durant's previous performances with Team USA, and the team's schedule for the rest of the Olympics

Leading up to the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kevin Durant was unable to participate in any of Team USA's five international friendly games. When the former MVP arrived at training camp, he did so with a calf strain that prevented him from fully participating in practice.

Given that Kawhi Leonard was replaced on the Team USA roster prior to the start of the team's international friendly slate, many fans questioned whether the same could happen to Durant. Instead, coach Steve Kerr made it clear that he and his staff hadn't considered replacing Durant despite the injury.

While Kerr and USA Basketball hoped that Kevin Durant would be able to ramp up in time to compete in the team's final international friendly game before the Olympics, that wasn't the case. Instead, Durant's first game of the summer with Team USA was the team's opening game of the Olympics.

Despite not playing in any of Team USA's international friendlies, Durant erupted in the opening game of the Group Phase against Serbia, scoring 23 points on 8-9 from the field as Team USSA defeated the FIBA World Cup runners-up 110-84.

The two-time NBA champ and future Hall of Famer then followed it up with a 14-point outing in a highly-anticipated rematch against South Sudan, who nearly defeated Team USA leading up to the Olympics.

Following Saturday’s win over Puerto Rico, Kevin Durant and Team USA will now shift their focus to the playoffs, which are set to tip off on Aug. 6 with quarterfinal action.

Teams that advance will then compete in the semifinals on Aug. 8, before the bronze and gold medal games on Aug. 10. Much like the team was before the start of the Olympics, Team USA is the betting favorite to win it all.
