On Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks hosted Luka Doncic for the first time since he was traded to the LA Lakers with Mark Cuban in attendance. Emotions ran high as the former face of the Mavs franchise returned to his former home and the fans were not timid about voicing their frustration.
That frustration was aimed at Mavs GM Nico Harrison. During the game, the fans got together in a chant to "Fire Nico." Mark Cuban was filmed burying his face in his hands as these chants rained down inside the American Airlines Center.
Cuban's clip, which has since gone viral, drew a reaction from Kevin Garnett.

"Ohh shh... Dallas fans standing on it," Garnett wrote.

Mark Cuban purchased his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks in 2000 and sold it in 2023. During his time as the principal owner, he was involved in a lot of decision-making for the team. One of those decisions was drafting Luka Doncic in 2018.
Cuban remains as a minority owner with the team but his role has also diminished.
Mark Cuban said that the Luka Doncic trade never would have happened if it were up to him
The Luka Doncic trade shocked the entire NBA world when it was initially announced. It was so unbelievable that fans questioned if Shams Charania, the person who broke the news, was hacked.
After the dust settled and it was confirmed that Doncic was indeed traded, Mark Cuban shared his thoughts regarding the move.
"If I had any influence the trade wouldn't happen," Cuban said. "I was just as dumbfounded as everyone else."
Interestingly, Cuban made a hyperbolic, but highly indicative statement about Luka Doncic. The former Mavs principal owner said that if he were to choose between a divorce or trading Doncic, he'd rather have a divorce. A statement that resurfaced and went viral after Doncic was traded.
Cuban has already shown the same level of devotion to a franchise player in Dirk Nowitzki. Nowitzki played his entire career in Dallas and he brought them a championship in 2011.
When Doncic was drafted by Dallas, there was a feeling that he was going to be the next franchise player. However, that all came to an end after his abrupt trade.
Luka Doncic cooked the Dallas Mavericks in his return to the American Airlines Center
The LA Lakers vs. Dallas Mavericks game on Wednesday wasn't a matchup between two highly seeded teams but it was still highly anticipated. People were curious to see what Luka Doncic would do against his former team and he did not disappoint.
Doncic scored 45 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished six assists and came away with four steals. He led the Lakers to a 112-97 victory which helped them maintain their hold on the third spot in the rankings.
Meanwhile, the Mavs sit at 10th place and are going to be part of the play-in tournament.
