Heading into free agency, Klay Thompson is one of the most interesting names to hit the open market. The latest reporting on the former All-Star and champion suggests he could garner interest from a Western Conference contender.

While discussing Thompson's impending free agency, Sam Amick and Anthony Slater of The Athletic mentioned the Denver Nuggets as a possible landing spot. The front office could target him if Kentavious Caldwell-Pope signs elsewhere this summer. Earlier this week, the veteran forward declined his player option and will also be a free agent.

"If the Nuggets lose free-agent-to-be Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has decided to decline his player option and enter the market, a league source said Denver has pegged Thompson as a possible replacement.
Caldwell-Pope, as it were, is believed to be a strong possibility for Orlando. There are a handful of other rival teams also in play for Thompson, depending on his price tag."

Klay Thompson had some ups and downs with the Golden State Warriors this season, most notably having to be moved to the bench at one point. However, the veteran sharpshooter still managed to put up solid numbers. Last season, Thompson averaged 17.9 points while shooting 38.7% from beyond the arc.

Price will be a major factor, but Thompson can still be a key piece for a contending team at this stage in his career.

Steve Kerr wants Klay Thompson to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors in free agency

While the reporting suggests that Klay Thompson is going to test the open market, there is still a chance he remains with the Golden State Warriors. During a recent interview, one key member of the organization admitted he doesn't want him to leave.

While speaking with radio host Jim Rome, Steve Kerr was asked about Thompson's time with the Warriors possibly ending. He stated Thompson is still valued within the organization and he hopes he remains in Golden State.

"We want Klay back desperately. I want him back desperately," Kerr said. "We will have our conversations, and he's got to make whatever decision he makes."
"We really want him back, he's Klay Thompson."

In an era where players are constantly on the move, the Warriors managed to build a dynasty around a trio of homegrown talents. Among those pieces was Thompson, who Golden State drafted 11th overall back in 2011.

After winning four titles together in a span of a decade, many expected Thompson, Steph Curry and Draymond to ride off into the sunset together. However, that might not end up being the case. If Thompson does depart in free agency, it will truly mark the end of a historic run for the franchise.
