Klay Thompson weighed in on the rumored potential All-Star 3-point contest that would see him and former Golden State Warriors teammate Steph Curry face off against WNBA stars Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark. The topic came up when the forward addressed the media after the Dallas Mavericks propped up a dominant 130-108 win over the Washington Wizards at the American Airlines Center on Monday.
Thompson revealed that he didn't know much about the event and the ensuing discussions, but hinted at looking forward to being a part of the contest.
"That’d be fun. I don’t know the details, but if the opportunity presents itself, that would be cool to be a part of."

Curry and Ionescu faced off in the 3-point contest on All-Star Weekend last year with the 4x NBA champion winning the duel. Thompson himself was a winner of the contest in 2016.
On the game front, Klay Thompson led Dallas with 23 points, three rebounds, and four assists. He found support in PJ Washington and Daniel Gafford with 19 and 18 points respectively. The win sees the Mavs improve to 25-22 as they remain seeded ninth in the West.
Klay Thompson has a record night in first quarter against Wizards
Klay Thompson drained 21 of his 23 points in the first quarter, matching the Dallas Mavericks' franchise record of swishing seven 3s in the period. He equaled the Mavs record for 3s in any quarter that was earlier set by injured superstar Luka Doncic. To add, Thompson owns the league record for most 3s in a quarter with nine, set in 2015 during his 11 seasons with the Golden State Warriors.
Speaking to the media about his first-quarter assault, Thompson said:
"That makes me feel seasoned, that is crazy…Absolutely. You do something like that, it reminds you that there’s greatness still within you…I love to use this quote. Be at your best when your best is needed, and I know I have another level to reach and we have so much basketball ahead of us…"
The Mavericks will need more of this level of play from Klay Thompson if they intend to make a surge in standings. With Doncic out with an injury, much depends on the wing and Kyrie Irving to lift them every game.
