On Thursday, Klay Thompson was off to a quiet start against the Portland Trail Blazers at the American Airlines Center. Tasked with leading the side in the absence of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, the Dallas Mavericks forward was yet to make a splash in the first half.
Thompson had two points on 1-of-4 shooting from the field and was 0-of-3 from beyond the arc. He recorded two rebounds and two assists as the Mavs trailed the Blazers 58-53.
By the end of the game, Thompson had just three points to show for along with three rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

Jason Kidd reacts to Klay Thompson's forgettable night against the Blazers
After going through shooting woes for a major part of the fame, Klay Thompson was pulled after just seeing 21 minutes of action on the floor. Despite the 117-111 win, Thompson's off-night took the spotlight with HC Jason Kidd being asked if the 4x NBA champion's form was a concern. On his part, Kidd replied:
"Yeah, he’s fine, just understanding we’re a team. His teammates picked him up tonight and he'll be ready to go on Sunday. It's big, it just shows the character of the team. It shows the depth of the team. This group is going to have some time together and get a rhythm, put their best foot forward. Their energy and effort are high… We found a way to win tonight."
The Mavericks were expected to win against Portland despite the absence of superstars Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. While the onus was on Thompson to guide them to another win like he did against the LA Lakers earlier this week, he ended with a torrid shooting night that saw him go 0-4 from downtown.
Orchestrating the win were P.J. Washington (23 points, 14 rebounds) and Dereck Lively II (21 points, 16 rebounds) as Dallas now improves to 22-16 in the West.
