Klay Thompson made his preseason debut for the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, marking the first time in his career he played for an NBA team other than the Golden State Warriors, where he spent 11 seasons.
During his tenure with the Warriors, Thompson earned five All-Star selections and won five championships, averaging 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
Now, he's bringing his elite 3-point shooting to Dallas, teaming up with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving to strengthen the Mavericks' offense. Doncic didn't suit up for tonight's game, but Irving played.
Thompson scored just one point in the first quarter, though he found his groove in the second quarter, where he drilled all of his three triples.

Here are Klay Thompson's stats from his first preseason game with the Mavericks:
After the game, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd praised Thompson for his performance, particularly his defense.
“He’s gonna guard everybody…I thought Klay did a really good job of guarding, and he’s a two-way player. He can defend and he takes pride in that," Kidd said via Noah Weber.
Trade proposal reunites Klay Thompson with ex-Warriors teammate in Mavericks
In a trade target article by Grant Hughes on Bleacher Report, the idea was floated that the Mavericks could trade for another key Golden State Warriors player to bolster their roster.
Hughes suggested that Dallas should target Gary Payton II from the Warriors to enhance their hustle and improve transition play.
“Who wouldn't love an injection of chaotic defense next to Dončić and Irving's offensive brilliance? Dallas doesn't have an ace disruptor in the backcourt, and Payton, when healthy, causes as much trouble as anyone at the position,” Hughes wrote.
“Though the Mavs may never embrace a true uptempo attack, the deflections and steals Payton generates could nudge them into more frequent transition opportunities,” he added.
Klay Thompson and Payton II played 72 games together for the Warriors, with Payton averaging 6.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 1.1 spg during his time with the team.
Aside from adding Thompson this offseason, the reigning Western Conference champions acquired Spencer Dinwiddie, Naji Marshall, Kessler Edwards and Quentin Grimes.
