Kyrie Irving shared his thoughts about Luka Doncic as a one-on-one player while recovering from a torn left ACL. The injury occured on March 3 during the Mavericks' game against the Sacramento Kings. It was a scary injury that the likes of the late Kobe Bryant and Klay Thompson dealt with, which kept them out for an extended period.

With Irving now out for the season, he's trying to enjoy his time at home streaming games on Twitch. During his most recent stream, one of his viewers asked about his thoughts on Doncic as a one-on-one player. Irving promptly praised his former teammate, commending his remarkable basketball skills.

"What do you rank Luka (Doncic) as a 1v1 player in the league? Luka is one of the best. One of the best of all time," Irving answered as he read his viewer's question.

Kyrie Irving gets real about relationship with Luka Doncic

On February 2, the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers shocked the basketball world when Luka Doncic was traded for Anthony Davis. It was a deal nobody anticipated, especially since Doncic had been groomed to be the face of the Mavericks franchise. Seeing the Slovenian star suit up for another NBA team seemed highly unlikely.

Since the trade, Doncic has moved on to help the Lakers become a better team. As of this writing, the Lakers holds a 43-27 record, placing them fourth in the Western Conference. They are only one win away from tying the Denver Nuggets (44-27) for third place.

At one point, Luka and LeBron James charged their way to second place. Unfortunately for the Lakers, James hurt his groin, which dropped them back down the ranks.

Despite abruptly parting ways, Kyrie Irving still sees Doncic as his brother. Their time together with the Mavericks was a meaningful experience as they both shared a bond that went beyond basketball.

"We’ve texted back and forth." Irving said. "I’ve let him know that regardless of how this NBA business shakes out…We’re loyal to each other’s families now. We had a lot of sacred conversations that went beyond the court, and just helping each other as men. I set my mission early on when I got traded here of just what I wanted to accomplish with him and I felt like we got that going and unfortunately it was cut short.”

True enough, Doncic has reciprocated those feelings as he still greeted his former teammate on his birthday. Irving just turned 33 years old and received a three-word message from Doncic on Instagram.

"Happy birthday hermano," Doncic wrote on his Instagram stories.

With Kyrie Irving sidelined by a torn ACL, it might be some time until we get to see these two superstars duel on the hardwood again.
