The LA Lakers are bringing Meyers Leonard in for a workout on Friday, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
The free-agent center has not played since the 2020-2021 NBA season, when he suited up for three games. Leonard played just 9.7 minutes per game and averaged 3.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game; however, he did shoot 42.9% from 3-point range.
Leonard was sidelined early in the 2020-2021 season after suffering a shoulder injury that required season-ending surgery. He was later seen using an antisemitic slur while livestreaming as he played video games. Leonard was suspended for one week and fined $50,000.

Just over a week after the incident, the Miami Heat traded Leonard to the OKC Thunder, who immediately released him after noting that they acquired him as a salary filler. Leonard, who is 30 years old, also underwent ankle surgery in 2021, leading doctors to discover that he had nerve damage in his lower right leg.
Leonard has career averages of 5.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.9 apg, 0.2 steals and 0.3 blocks per game in his nine seasons. However, he has shot 48.2% from the field, 39.0% from 3-point range and 80.9% from the free-throw line.
LA Lakers also set to work out Demarcus Cousins
With Anthony Davis sidelined, the LA Lakers are currently lacking size and perimeter shooting. In addition to Meyers Leonard, the Lakers will also bring in Demarcus Cousins for a workout on Friday, according to Chris Haynes of TNT.
Cousins spent the 2019-2020 season with the LA Lakers, although he was sidelined for the entire season with a torn ACL. Cousins was eventually released for a roster spot; however, the team reportedly awarded him a championship ring after winning the title.
With both Leonard and Cousins set to work out, it remains to be seen if the Lakers will offer either player a contract.
