Magic Johnson celebrated at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday as the LA Dodgers won the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees. The Dodgers rallied from an 0-5 deficit in Game 5 to eke past the Yankees 7-6 and win the series 4-1. Johnson now has two championships since becoming part-owner of the Dodgers in 2012.
On Thursday, the LA Lakers legend shared photos of the Dodgers’ celebration. He couldn’t resist showcasing the championship trophy with a bit of flair, writing:
“With this trophy, I now have 15 championship rings!”

Johnson's collection includes one title in college and five NBA championships he won with the Lakers as a player. Since becoming a part-owner of the Lakers, Dodgers, LA Sparks, and LAFC, these teams have collectively won nine championships. He also co-owns the Washington Commanders of the NFL, but the team has yet to win a title during his ownership tenure.
Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about the LA Dodgers' eighth franchise championship, Johnson said:
“It’s been crazy. You think about, yes, I’m a Laker, but I’m a true-blue Dodger, too. Hopefully, one day they [Lakers] will win it again, but right now the city is owned, today, by the Dodgers.”
If the Lakers win another Larry O’Brien Trophy, it will not improve Johnson’s championship count. He sold his stake with the team in 2010, reportedly for $27 million.
Magic Johnson hails 2024 World Series MVP Freddie Freeman
Magic Johnson praised the man most responsible for his 15th championship. Johnson praised Freddie Freeman in an Instagram post, congratulating him for winning the 2024 World Series MVP award after a historic performance.
Johnson wrote on Instagram:
“Congratulations to the undisputed MVP of the World Series, Freddie Freeman! It was well deserved and earned!”
Before Game 1, nobody has ever ended a World Series game with a grand slam. Freeman crushed Nelson Cortes’ fastball in the 10th inning to give the LA Dodgers a 6-3 win. It was the biggest shot in the series and set the tone for the Dodgers’ romp to the title.
