The LA Lakers take on the Miami Heat on Wednesday, hoping to snap a three-game skid and avenge one of their most embarrassing losses of the season. When the teams last met on Dec. 4, Miami ran circles around LA en route to a 134-93 win. The Lakers were in the middle of a slump then, and the situation is the same ahead of their next game.

However, it's not as bad as one would think. The Lakers have a better identity this time around as a defensive team. They have a more settled lineup to deal with the Heat's new offensive schemes. LA enters this clash with a 20-17 record, seventh in the West. Meanwhile, the Heat are 20-18, seventh in the East.

LA Lakers injury report (Jan. 15): Key defensive stalwart likely to miss game

The LA Lakers could have some rotation problems against the Miami Heat. One of their key defensive players, Dorian Finney-Smith, is doubtful to play, citing personal reasons. Finney-Smith could have been key against the in-form Tyler Herro. However, the Lakers will need Max Christie and Cam Reddish to step up as the primary defenders against the Heat star.

Meanwhile, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are also on the injury report. However, both are likely to play. James is managing a left foot injury, and Davis has a left plantar fasciitis injury. LeBron's son, Bronny James, is also on the list, citing illness. Bronny is questionable to play.

Jarred Vanderbilt, Christian Wood and Jalen Hood-Schifino remain sidelined. Vanderbilt has ramped up his recovery process but is still a few games away from making his comeback. Wood remains out without a timetable, and so does Hood-Schifino.

Vanderbilt underwent foot surgery in the offseason, and Wood had a procedure on his knee. Meanwhile, Hood-Schifino is dealing with a hamstring strain.
