LA Lakers vs Golden State Warriors Game Summary
The LA Lakers took on the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, the second of four meetings between the two teams this season. LA won the initial skirmish 115-113 in the NBA’s marquee matchup on Christmas Day. LeBron James and Co. looked to take a 2-0 lead in the season series and grab a fifth victory in their last six games.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James combined for 16 of the Lakers' 27 points in the first quarter. LA concentrated its attack in the paint but missed multiple close-range shots. Without Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga, the Golden State defense held up.
Meanwhile, the Dubs attempted 16 3-pointers in the first quarter alone and made five of them. Steph Curry and Gary Payton II had two triples each in the period. Golden State trailed 27-26 after one quarter.
The second quarter continued to be a seesaw battle despite the LA Lakers' more successful plays inside. LA went 8-for-12 in paint scoring in the period and 2-for-8 from deep. Dalton Knecht and Gabe Vincent drained the triples to give the offense a boost. The Lakers took a 59-58 lead at halftime.
The Golden State Warriors changed their attack after inefficient shooting from deep. They were 7-for-11 in the shaded area and 4-for-9 from long range. Steph Curry finished the half with 13 points, while Andrew Wiggins added 11.
The Lakers edged the Warriors 30-25 in the third quarter behind Max Christie, Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves. LA needed everything the trio could give as the injury-hampered hosts stubbornly kept in step. Quinten Post, Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II carried the scoring load as Steph Curry was held scoreless. LA led 89-83 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lakers again shut out Curry in the final frame. Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins and Podziemski stepped up to make the quarter close throughout. In the end, the Lakers scored timely baskets to hold on for a 118-108 win.
