Jalen Green had 33 points, six rebounds and four assists to lead Houston, while Amen Thompson admirably filled in for Smith. Thompson finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds and three assists. Steven Adams added eight points and nine rebounds off the bench.
Meanwhile, Anthony Davis had 30 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks. LeBron James had a near triple-double of 21 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists, while Austin Reaves put up 21 points and 10 assists.

In the first quarter, the two teams went neck-and-neck in the first nine minutes of the contest. Nine lead changes occurred during that span before the Houston Rockets took over and built a 14-point lead at the end of the first 12 minutes.
Rui Hachimura had eight points for the LA Lakers, while Jalen Green was hot off the bat with 18 points to give Houston a 36-22 lead. "The King" was quiet with just two points and Anthony Davis struggled with two points on 1-for-6 shooting.
The Rockets continued to pile it on in the second quarter, with the lead ballooning to 22 points at one point. The Lakers fought valiantly, led by Austin Reaves, but they only managed to get close by 13 points. Houston entered halftime with a 67-49 advantage.
The LA Lakers began the third quarter by slowly chipping away the Houston Rockets' lead. It was down to just four points at the 4:19 mark before the Rockets rebuilt the advantage up to 10.
However, the Lakers were not going away easily as they mounted another comeback, with the Rockets clinging to a 91-89 lead heading into the final quarter. They were still playing catchup in the final 12 minutes and were within striking distance with under a minute remaining.
LeBron James was called for an offensive foul with 39 seconds remaining. The Lakers followed it up with Max Christie's inbound pass getting stolen by Fred VanVleet with six seconds left. The final one was an offensive foul on Anthony Davis, which negated James' 3-point make with four seconds remaining.
The LA Lakers play in Dallas on Tuesday night, while the Houston Rockets begin a three-game road trip starting against the Washington Wizards.
