The Boston Celtics waived Lonnie Walker IV ahead of the season opener against the New York Knicks on Oct. 22, per ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania. The NBA champions had signed Walker to an Exhibit 10 contract in free agency before free agency.
Shams shared the news on Friday on X, formerly Twitter.
Fans reacted to the news in the comments section of the post. One fan highlighted Walker's requirement in the league and insisted the Lakers sign back Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball.

Other fans joined the bandwagon, urging the Purple and Gold to acquire their former guard.

Other fans were surprised to hear the news and highlighted Walker's great performance in preseason games.

Other teams now have a chance to acquire Walker through a waiver wire. However, if he clears the waivers, he could return to the organization and play for the Celtics' G-League associate in Maine.
That move could allow Walker to make the main roster down the road. For now, the Celtics have an open roster spot ahead of their season opener.

Lonnie Walker IV left quite the impression on the Celtics fans before getting cut from the organization. Before the waiver, the shooting guard gave an exclusive interview to Fadeaway World. He talked about the aspirations boiling down at the Boston camp before the new season.
"I know the expectations being here are high. They're not only trying to repeat and chase championships, we're here for greatness," Walker said.
"They want to be champions but they also want to be one of the greatest teams and organizations ever."
Walker had a decent run with the Brooklyn Nets last season. He averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 42.3% field goal shooting percentage.
