The LeBron James-led LA Lakers are as involved as any other team in the NBA trade rumor mill ahead of the fast-approaching deadline. After acquiring Dorian Finney-Smith in December, the Lakers have set their sights on upgrading the backcourt and center spots.
One of the most heavily linked trade partners is the Utah Jazz. They have two solid prospects who address multiple needs for LA: Colin Sexton and Walker Kessler. According to Bovada Official, the Lakers have the third-highest odds (+700) of landing Sexton.
A popular sports astrologer online who goes by the handle "Zodiac GM" has claimed that LeBron James and Co. also have one of the best "synergies," with an A- grade, tied for the second best with the Orlando Magic and behind the Miami Heat, who have an A+ synergy fit. Sexton was born on Jan. 4, 1999. His zodiac sign is Capricorn.

The Lakers could benefit from Sexton primarily because of his scoring and serviceable playmaking. They traded D'Angelo Russell for Finney-Smith and are now one playmaker short. Austin Reaves and LeBron James have stabilized that area momentarily, but LA needs a sustainable answer in that area.
Can the LA Lakers realistically trade for Colin Sexton?
The LA Lakers are always linked to numerous candidates, but only some are logistically acquirable targets. If they plan on pursuing Colin Sexton, fortunately for them, the Lakers have the contracts and picks to propose a deal to the Jazz for Sexton. The guard signed a four-year $70,950,000 contract in September 2022 and is making $18,350,000 this season.
The Lakers can include Gabe Vincent and Jarred Vanderbilt in a packaged deal or use Rui Hachimura's contract with another veteran minimum deal. They have two second-round picks and three tradeable first-round picks, of which they could trade two at once.
Another possibility is unprotecting the 2027 first-round pick, which the Lakers owe the Jazz from the blockbuster Russell Westbrook trade at the February 2023 trade deadline. Utah will own that first-rounder if it falls between 5 to 30. Without any protections, the Jazz will have it, even if it's a top-four pick.
However, if LA is to make this deal, GM Rob Pelinka will likely push to acquire Walker Kessler, too. The 22-year-old is a bigger target and need than Sexton, as the Lakers are thin on the frontcourt and are coveting a reliable backup for Anthony Davis.
