LA Lakers star LeBron James posted a photo on his Instagram account on Friday highlighting himself and his son, Bronny. James' caption shows why he's still playing in the NBA. With 22 seasons under his belt, the purpose of the Lakers star has changed over the years.
While his firstborn was still in high school, James talked about his dream of playing alongside Bronny in the NBA. His dream became a reality this season after the Lakers drafted the former USC point guard with the 55th pick. Together, they made history in the first game of the 2024-25 NBA season as the first father-son duo to play a game together.
On IG, James highlighted achieving his dream of playing with his son with a two-word, bold caption.
"MY PURPOSE," James posted.

James also has a chance to play alongside or against his second son, Bryce. On Wednesday, the high school player announced that he has committed to Arizona as part of their 2025 class. This puts him closer to achieving his dream of becoming an NBA player.
However, there are no indications that the Lakers star will slow down and stop playing basketball. James discussed the prospect of playing in the league for a few more years as he celebrated his 40th birthday on December 30.
"It won't be because I can't play this game at a high level," James said when asked what would tell him when to retire. "To be honest, if I really wanted to, I could probably play this game at a high level for another five to seven years. If I wanted to, but I'm not gonna do that."
At 40, James is still playing at an elite level, averaging 23.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 8.9 assists. With his longevity, he could have a chance to play alongside or against his youngest son.
LeBron James made fun of two former Arizona players following his son's commitment
LeBron James' sons did not follow the same route to the league as he did. Both of the younger James' committed to a college. Being the younger brother out of the two, Bryce was the latest to announce his commitment.
After the announcement, James led the Lakers to a 114-106 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. The four-time champion was questioned about his son's choice to commit to Arizona after the game. The star joked about his old teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye while simultaneously expressing his joy with his son's choice.
"Got some terrible friends in Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye that are alum there, so not too excited about that, but other than that we're excited to go be part of the Tucson community," James said.
Both Frye and Jefferson are Arizona alums who played alongside James for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Together, they won the NBA championship in 2016.
