LeBron James' ex-teammate Kendrick Perkins seemingly took a shot at Bronny James after Rockets rookie Reed Sheppard's near 50-point night in the G League. Sheppard had 49 points on Tuesday for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers against the Oklahoma City Blue.
Perkins wasn't particularly in awe of Sheppard's incredible effort. He downplayed it, saying that's how NBA players should look when suiting up in the G League.
"This is how NBA players in the G-League is supposed to look," Perkins wrote on X.

Perkins' comment could have been an indirect jab at Bronny. Some people believed Bronny's skillset was better suited for the NBA than college and G League levels. However, the Lakers' second-round pick hasn't made a significant impact in either place. Yet, he has a standard rookie deal with LA.
He's also spending more time with the Lakers than their G League affiliate. Bronny has participated in nine games for the South Bay Lakers. His numbers haven't stood out off the bat, but they have improved considerably over the past few games. He even dropped a career-high 30 points on Dec. 12.
On the other hand, Reed Sheppard didn't have the growing pains of a rookie in his debut G League game, which may have prompted Kendrick Perkins' potential jab at LeBron James' eldest son.
Bronny James and LeBron James are making their time as teammates memorable
Bronny James and LeBron James may not have a long time together in the NBA as teammates. The latter is likely to call it time sooner rather than later after celebrating his 40th birthday over a week ago. With Bronny also going back and forth between his time with the Lakers and South Bay, the father-son duo seemingly have limited time to spend with each other despite sharing the same profession.
However, they seem to be making it count whenever Bronny gets to join his father's team. He's been with the Lakers since New Year's and in the spotlight, too. LeBron James made an emotional post for his son after the Jan. 3 game against the Atlanta Hawks, where the former USC prospect was celebrating his father's 3-pointer.
"My purpose," LeBron wrote.
It was one of LeBron James' goals to play with his son in the NBA before he retires. He's had his wish, and now the Lakers star's attention has turned to winning his fifth NBA title and second with the Lakers.
