LeBron James' close friend Maverick Carter recently spoke with Pat McAfee and had jokes for his iconic former high school basketball protege.

During his Thursday afternoon appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Carter told a story about his time playing at St. Vincent-St. Mary's alongside a freshman LeBron James.

Carter opened his segment discussing Brian Windhorst of ESPN, stating, "I always give [Brian Windhorst] s**t, because Brian never even went inside the gym at St. Vincent-St. Mary's. His mom was our health teacher, though, Mrs. Windhorst."

Carter continued:

"One fact, a little brag, I was a senior when [LeBron James] was a freshman, we went 27-0 and won the state title," Carter said. "We finished like 16th in the nation, LeBron obviously went on to have a fantastic basketball career. He turned out pretty well, but I'm still the only player to ever play with LeBron and win MVP when he did not."

James and Carter remain close friends. Carter is James' business manager, a role he has held since 2006. He has helped LBJ with many business ventures, including his 2021 minority stake purchase in Liverpool F.C.

LeBron James joining Netflix NBA series alongside fellow stars

On Wednesday morning, Netflix announced the launch of Starting 5, an NBA series documenting five NBA stars' lives on and off the court during the 2023-24 season.

LeBron James was confirmed as one of those five players, along with Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards and Domantas Sabonis.

Netflix released a trailer for the show, with the series set to premiere on Wednesday, October 9.

The docuseries includes Los Angeles' inaugural In-Season Championship win and the Boston Celtics' NBA title triumph against the Dallas Mavericks.

Starting 5 will likely follow a similar path to Netflix's two popular NFL series, Quarterback and Receiver, covering some of the best NFL players in today's game.
