LeBron James lists names he thinks could surpass him on scoring record: “His name is not Easy Money & Slim Reaper for no reason”

LeBron James(37,965 points) of the LA Lakers is on his way to breaking the scoring record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar(38,387 points) this season. In his quest to be the best, the Lakers forward mentioned Kevin Durant as a player who could surpass him in the all-time scoring list.

Over the week, James was interviewed by ESPN's Dave McMenamin. In the interview, they discussed his journey to becoming the league's best scorer. According to LeBron, it wasn't his goal in the first place. However, he developed a knack for scoring, making him an offensive juggernaut in his 20-year career.

As the NBA has evolved into an offensive-centered league, there are threats to LeBron's scoring throne.

"KD comes up, the first thing that comes to mind, for sure. His name is not Easy Money and Slim Reaper for no reason," James said.

"He does it so effortlessly. His ability to shoot the three-ball, shoot the mid-range, get to the paint. And also shoot, 85-90 [percent] from the free throw line. Those are ingredients, [probably] the most important is being available on the floor."

Given how effortless KD has been in his career to score, James could be right with his take. The 6-foot-10 forward can easily outscore the Los Angeles star, which is if he's able to stay healthy throughout the remaining years of his career. The Brooklyn Nets star is already a well-known scorer in the league, after all.

It's a known fact that LeBron James had a difficult time in his early days in the NBA. As a teenager, he was expected to carry the majority of the offense after being selected first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before joining the Miami Heat in the summer of 2010, he had a "lone wolf" personal with the Cavs.

He was already confident in his ability to lead his teammates on the offensive side at that point. It was especially noticeable with his former teammates Chris Bosh and Kevin Love. Before joining forces with James, both were All-Stars. However, as they aided LeBron's quest for titles, they both became fringe All-Stars.

In his last year with the Cavs, he didn't have any other star help, aside from Love. For James, it was normal, as he dealt with a similar situation in his early days with Cleveland. This led to legendary performances during the 2017-18 season. He single-handedly carried the squad to the finals to match up against the Golden State Warriors for the final time.

The weight that was put on him by the Cavs early in his NBA years has helped him do most of the things for the team. Even though LeBron James keeps mentioning that he's a "pass-first guy," he's already become a scoring threat.
