"He used his gift to give back to his community and lived what it means to inspire, empower and uplift others along the way. His words, his ambition and his actions stick with me to this day as he continues to inspire myself, our company and people everywhere."
Hussle started out as a hip-hop artist in the late 2000s. He stayed close to home as he grew up in the Crenshaw area of Los Angeles, California. Even after his rise to fame, he still resided in Los Angeles. "Victory Lap" was his last album before the rapper was brutally murdered in the southern part of Los Angeles.
Hussle tragically died on March 31, 2019, after a homicide. Eric Holder was found guilty of first-degree murder. LeBron James, along with other NBA stars, paid tribute when the rap legend died.

It's a well-known fact that the NBA and hip-hop go hand in hand. NBA players want to become part of the rap culture, while rappers enjoy dropping references about their favorite basketball players. LeBron James is no exception to that. In the past, he's publicly shown interest in the genre.
In the 2013-14 season, James was selected by the NBA 2k series as its cover athlete for the NBA 2k14 game. Not only was he the cover, he chose the songs that were included in the game. Songs by famed hip-hop artists like Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Rick Ross were all featured thanks to King James.
But that's not the only instance of the four-time champion taking part in hip-hop. In 2009, Drake released the song "Forever" that featured Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem. In the music video, James was the star.
In 2013, James also appeared on an ESPN cover with hip-hop legend, Dr. Dre. Click here to see it.
