Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets made history on Monday after defeating the LA Lakers 113-111 in Game 4 of their Western Conference finals series. With the win, Nuggets secured a 4-0 series sweep and advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history.
Denver closed out the Lakers behind another monster triple-double from Jokic. The superstar big man finished with 30 points, 14 rebounds, 13 assists, three blocks and three 3-pointers on 45.8% shooting. Jokic’s big night was just enough to offset Lakers star forward LeBron James.
James finished with a game-high 40 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and four 3-pointers on 60.0% shooting. However, he was also blocked by Nuggets forward Aaron Gordon on his game-tying shot attempt with 1.1 seconds remaining, which sealed the win for Denver.
Following the Nuggets’ big win, fans had some strong reactions on Twitter. Many poked fun at James and the Lakers for getting swept.

Nikola Jokic wins Western Conference finals MVP
After his dominant performance in the Western Conference finals, Nikola Jokic was named the 2023 Western Conference finals MVP. However, when asked what the award meant to him, Jokic downplayed the honor and instead credited his teammates and coaches:
“For me, to be honest, nothing,” Jokic said.
“This trophy is supposed to go to my teammates and coaches. They put me in a situation (where) I’m just (the) first among equals. I’m just happy that we are collectively getting wins and getting to make something.
“I think it’s one collective effort that we are growing as a team, as a franchise. I think it’s really nice to be a Nuggets fan,” he added.
Jokic averaged 27.8 points, 14.5 rebounds, 11.8 assists, 1.3 steals, 1.3 blocks and 2.0 3-pointers per game on 50.6% shooting in four games against the Lakers.
Denver now await the winner of the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat’s Eastern Conference finals series to determine who they will face in the finals.
