Among the reasons Carmelo Anthony retired from the NBA was to be around for his son's potential journey to the pros. Following a recent viral clip on social media, some fans didn't approve of the former superstar's actions.

As he finishes high school, Carmelo's son Kiyan is spending the summer playing in the Nike Elite Youth Basketball league. He's had multiple standout showings, but things got chippy in one of his recent games.

After getting tangled up with one of his opponents, Kiyan got into a face-to-face verbal altercation. Carmelo Anthony was sitting courtside and decided to step in and break it up. NBA fans ended up responding to the clip, saying the longtime Denver Nuggets forward shouldn't have intervened.

Other fans pointed their aim at Kiyan for how he acted during the altercation.

"Kiyan softer than charmin flinched like mf then trys to act hard like he was about to do something," one fan said.
"Got punked in front of his pops." Another fan said.
"That flop tho," said one fan.

Kiyan is a 6-foot-5 guard who attends Long Island Lutheran High School in New York. He is set to graduate next year but hasn't made a decision on college yet despite receiving multiple offers.

Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan has controversial NBA father-son take

In a few years, Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan will look to join the growing list of second-generation NBA players. Despite his continued development, he had a controversial take regarding his and his dad's capabilities.

During a recent interview, Kiyan was asked about him and Carmelo playing Bronny and LeBron James in a game of two-of-two. He feels the game would be close but sided with the LA Lakers duo because LeBron is still playing.

"I think Bron and Bronny will win to be honest," Kiyan said. "Just because Bron still in the league. He still doing what he doing. It would be a close game, it would be like 11-8, 11-7."

Carmelo Anthony ended up talking about his son's comments on his podcast. He is hoping that Kiyan was just joking around when he picked LeBron and Bronny.

"11-8 is crazy," Carmelo said. "I hope he don't think that s****. I gotta have that conversation after this."

While Carmelo is retired now, he isn't far removed from being a contributing player in the league. His last run came in 2022 when he averaged 13.3 points across 69 games with the LA Lakers.

After delving into his son's comments, Carmelo made sure to give Kiyan a shoutout. He opened up on what an awesome experience it's been for him as a parent to see his son grow as a person and basketball player.
