The South Bay Lakers faced the Mexico City Capitanes in Mexico City on Friday and Saturday for a two-game series, but Bronny James did not play. While other players, such as Devonte Graham and Quincy Olivari, were present for the LA Lakers G League affiliate, James' absence was a notable storyline for the game.

According to an article by AHN Fire Digital, James was on the main roster, which led to some disappointment, as fans had bought tickets to see him.

Once the report of Bronny's absence was released, more fans weighed in on the issue. Some either trolled or attacked the Lakers rookie for not being in the game and even dragged his father, LeBron James, into the discussion.

"Remember when LeBron sat out a game too when fans were expecting to see him? Lol like father like son," one person said.
"Bron not letting that boy step foot in Mexico without him come on now," one fan tweeted.
"Like father like son. I was hot pulling up to Staples and seeing no LeBron an hour before the game," another X user wrote.

Meanwhile, other fans took a different route with their reactions as they left LeBron out of the conversation.

"That’s the peoples fault for buying tickets to g league games expecting to see specific players. Trey Burke didn’t even play," one person tweeted.
"Didn’t they say a long time ago he’s not doing G League away games?" a fan pointed out.
"Refund?" one person asked.

When it was announced that Bronny would spend time for the LA Lakers G League affiliate, it was also made clear that his playing time with them would be limited.

According to Brian Windhorst, Bronny's participation in the G League would only be limited to home games. Since the two South Bay Lakers vs Mexico Capitanes games were both played in Mexico City, it is likely that the front office had no plans of letting James play at all.

South Bay Lakers split two games in Mexico City in Bronny James' absence

The first game between the South Bay Lakers and the Mexico City Capitanes, which took place on Friday, ended in victory for the hosts. Former Dallas Mavericks guard Trey Burke took charge for the Capitanes. He scored a game-high 26 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished five assists, and came away with three steals. Under his leadership, Mexico City routed South Bay 114-96.

Burke was not present for the game on Saturday. It was a pair of former LA Lakers players who shone for Mexico City: forward Juan Toscano-Anderson and guard Davon Reed, scoring 33 and 22, respectively. However, South Bay overcame that and won 106-98 behind 19 points from Devonte Graham.

Meanwhile, Bronny James logged some minutes in the LA Lakers' win against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday. He was on the court for under two minutes, and recorded one assist.
