While he's emerged as one of the top young stars in the NBA, Anthony Edwards has always kept a close eye on football. He recently sent fans into a tailspin following comments about possibly becoming a two-sport athlete.
Dating back to before he was drafted No. 1 overall in 2020, Edwards has spoken numerous times about his skills on the football field. During a recent interview, he took things a step further when talking about making the leap to the NFL. Edwards stated that if he were to win a title in the next few years, he'd think about changing sports.
As expected, this remark by Anthony Edwards caught many NBA fans by surprise. However, some felt it backed up all the Michael Jordan comparisons he received last year.

Other fans joked that he would remain in the NBA because the Minnesota Timberwolves would never win a championship.
"Looks like hes playing basketball for the rest of his Career," one fan said.
"Guess there is no football for u," another fan said.
"Wouldnt hold your breath on that," said one fan.
Edwards led the Timberwolves to the conference finals for the first time in 20 years last season, but they could not get past the Dallas Mavericks. Despite making a big trade this offseason, Minnesota will attempt to stay in the title picture in the Western Conference in 2025.
Anthony Edwards has long wanted to be the first NBA/NFL athlete
This is far from the first, and probably won't be the last, time Anthony Edwards opens up on his interest to be a two-sport pro athlete. He discussed it during an interview last season and echoed the same message.
Edwards has his sights set on becoming the first NBA and NFL athlete, but there are a few things he needs to accomplish first. The most notable feat is securing the NBA title.
"As a team, [the] Minnesota [Timberwolves] organization, we want to win a championship. After that, we'll figure that out," Edwards said.
Since being drafted in 2020, Anthony Edwards has been on the fast track towards superstardom in the NBA. Last year is considered a breakout year for him, as he posted averages of 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists in the regular season. Edwards also increased his production in the postseason, but it wasn't enough to get the Timberwolves to the finals.
As he prepares to enter his prime, the Timberwolves have made it clear that he is their sole foundational pillar moving forward. With Karl-Anthony Towns traded to the Knicks, it's now on the young guard to be the "franchise guy" for Minnesota.
