Lonzo Ball returned to basketball this season after battling injuries for more than two years. The Chicago Bulls have been cautious with Ball, who missed more than 200 games over the past three seasons. He underwent multiple knee surgeries, including an innovative meniscus transplant procedure.

On Monday night, the Bulls hosted Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs at the United Center. But how did Ball perform against the Spurs?

Ball finished the game with five points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. He was in the closing lineup for Chicago as they completed a 19-point comeback to beat San Antonio 114-110.

Coby White made back-to-back baskets over Wembanyama in the final minute of the game to give the Bulls the lead. Ball was involved in a controversial call in the last five seconds, but the Bulls made a successful challenge.

How did Lonzo Ball perform against the San Antonio Spurs?

Lonzo Ball came off the bench for the Chicago Bulls, subbing in at the 7:43 mark of the first quarter to replace Coby White at point guard. He had three points in the period, hitting a 3-point shot with less than a minute left to cut down the San Antonio Spurs' lead 27-20.

In the second quarter, Ball was on the bench until subbing in for Nikola Vucevic with eight minutes left at the half. He only played four minutes and was given a breather by White. He finished the first two quarters with three points, one rebound and a steal.

The UCLA product added two points in the third quarter, going back to the court midway through the period with the Bulls down by 12 points. He made his only basket with less than two minutes left.

In the fourth quarter, Lonzo Ball played valuable minutes for the Chicago Bulls. The game came down to the wire after the Bulls mounted a furious rally in the final three minutes. Ball played great defense on every San Antonio Spurs player that got switched on him.

The guard recovered a loose ball with under a minute remaining, saving it by going into the Spurs bench and laying it out on the line. He sacrificed his body to do it, with Coby White getting the ball. He got isolated against Victor Wembanyam, hitting a crossover move and finishing a tough layup off the top of the glass to give Chicago the 111-110 lead.

After the Spurs failed to get the lead, White closed it out by attacking the basket and dunking over Wembanyama. It pumped up the crowd as Zach LaVine made 1-of-2 free throws to ice the game.

There was a controversial call with five seconds left, with Ball seemingly fouling Julian Champagnie from beyond the arc. The Bulls challenged it and were successful. It could have led to a disastrous result for Chicago.
