The Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the LA Lakers as part of a blockbuster three-team trade with the Utah Jazz. Doncic's fiancee Anamaria Goltes shared a quote right around the time ESPN's Shams Charania reported the deal broke the internet.

In a post on her Instagram stories, Goltes shared a quote from Undefeated Moms about how strong coffee should be. It's about motherhood, with Doncic and Goltes welcoming their daughter Gabriela in December 2023.

"May your coffee be stronger than your toddler," the quote read.

The timing of the post may or may not be linked to Luka Doncic getting traded to the LA Lakers. It's going to be an adjustment for the couple, moving from Texas to California. Doncic will be joined by his teammates Markieff Morris and Maxi Kleber, who are also part of the deal.

Why did the Dallas Mavericks trade Luka Doncic?

It's the question on a lot of people's minds, especially those who are aware of how good Luka Doncic since entering the NBA in 2018. Doncic has not hit the prime of his career, but is already among the best players in the world. So why did the Mavs trade him to the LA Lakers for Anthony Davis?

ESPN's Tim MacMahon explained that Dallas has growing concerns about a couple of things. Doncic's conditioning issues have been a problem for the franchise since he was a rookie, which led to poor performances at the start of the season and even injuries.

Another concern was Doncic being eligible to sign a supermax contract worth $345 million. The Mavericks are no longer owned by Mark Cuban, who sold the majority of the team to the Adelson Family in December 2023.

Mavericks general manager breaks silence on Luka Doncic trade

Tim MacMahon got the first words from the Dallas Mavericks since the blockbuster deal involving Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis. General manager Nico Harrison explained that the Mavericks are trying to win a championship and their main priority is to have great defense.

"I believe that defense wins championships," Harrison said. "I believe that getting an All-Defensive center and an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future."

On paper, Anthony Davis seems to be a better fit for the Dallas Mavericks. He will slot in the power forward spot, which he covets with the LA Lakers. Kyrie Irving gets a bigger role though the two stars' respective injury history should be a concern for at least Mavs fans.
